Mohanathas Sanmuguratnam dies after Sept. 9 truck collision

A week after colliding with a dump truck, a 27-year-old Toronto man has succumbed to his injuries in hospital.Mohanathas Sanmuguratnam was in the passenger seat of a small car when it collided with the truck shortly after 3 a.m. Sept. 9, at the intersection of Morningside and Sheppard Aves., said Toronto police traffic services Sgt. Allan Finlay.

Sanmuguratnam was taken to hospital with “massive injuries” before succumbing Saturday, Finlay said. The driver of the vehicle is still recovering in hospital while the driver of the truck wasn’t injured, police said.

No charges have been laid as police investigate.

The death is Toronto’s 47th traffic fatality of the year.

Three men are in hospital in serious condition after two separate traffic accidents early Saturday.

Two of the victims, believed to be in their 20s, were injured in a crash near Morningside and Sheppard around 3am. Their car collided with a garbage truck and the driver of the larger vehicle wasn’t injured.

A commercial inspection unit was brought to the scene to check out the truck and investigators still aren’t sure what caused the accident.

And a third man was injured when he was struck by a car just after midnight in the east end.

The pedestrian, also in his 20s, was walking along Danforth west of Coxwell when he was hit. He was rushed to hospital in serious condition and his name hasn’t been released.

There’s no word on possible charges.
